At the end of every university semester you can definitely notice a decline in our posting. Finals weeks are insane.  Both Marilyn and I study marketing and fashion design at the same time, so the amount of group projects/dealing with people/printing/studying consumes us.  Thankfully Thursday, April 14th I will be a free woman. Then vacations baby! :D (Only two weeks, but still very much needed).

It's been a while since a Fashion Design Class Update, so I'm gonna share with you guys my "Mood Board", for my Design I class.  The task is to draw a collection inspired on it. Have to draw 5 blouses, 5 skirts, 5 pants and 5 holiday dresses (party dresses), with their front and backside.

A final de cada semestre universitario, se nota la falta de movimiento en el blog, eso se debe a las semanas de finales.  Marilyn y yo estudiamos Marketing y Diseno de Modas al mismo tiempo, asi que la cantidad de projectos/bregar con gente/impresiones/estudiar nos consume.  Pero soy feliz ya que este Jueves, 14 de Abril sere una mujer libre! Vacaciones! (Solamente son dos semas libre, pero como quiera hacen bien).

Llevo mucho tiempo sin hacer un Update de mis clases de Diseño de Modas, asi que compartire con ustedes mi "Tabla de Inspiración o Mood Board", para mi clase de Diseño I.  Tengo que dibujar una colección inspirada en él.  Tengo que dibujar 5 blusas, 5 faldas, 5 pantalones y 5 vestidos de fiesta, todas con su parte trasera así que sería como 10 de cada pieza. 

My mood board is a quick view on what I love: Music, Bright Colors, The Color Back and just that whole rock and screw you vibe.  I'm excited to see what I come up with, hopefully what I have in mind will come across in my drawings.

Mi Mood Board es una pequena representacion de lo que me gusta: Musica, colores chillones, el color negro y toda esa vibra rockera.  Estoy emocionada de ver como logro plantear lo que tengo en mi mente en dibujo.

I can't believe I'm already in my second semester of Fashion Design!

Estoy ya en mi segundo semestre de Diseño de Modas. No me lo creo!

January 13th, 2011.  Beginning of our second semester in Fashion Design.  Courses: Illustration I, Design I.

Enero 13, 2011.  Comienzo de nuestro segundo semestre en Diseño de Modas.  Materias: Ilustración I, Diseño I.

It being the first day and all,  we didn't do much, other than learning what is it we're going to learn in each class, what to expect and of course what materials we need to buy.   Sketch books, Fabrian Paper, Different type of pencils, markers etc.

Por ser el primer día no hicimos mucho. Consistió en Introducir las materias, enterarnos en que consiste cada una, que haremos y claro...que materiales necesitamos comprar.  Cuadernos de Bocetos, Papel Fabriano, distintos tipos de lápices, marcadores, etc. 

 We did get out first assignment though! We have to draw FIFTY croquis for Illustration I. 

Pero sí nos pusieron una tarea de Ilustración! Tenemos que dibujar CINCUENTA croquis.

The idealised figure, upon which, fashion illustrators drape their dress designs on, is also known as a “croquis.” The word “croquis” comes from the French word, meaning, “to sketch.”

The croquis is a means of communicating fashion concepts via an idealized fashion form.

La figura estética, que utilizan los Ilustradores de Moda  para cubrir sus diseños en el, es conocido como "croquis". La palabra "croquis" proviene de la palabra francesa, y significa "Boceto".

I know this semester will be even more hectic than the last, but I am SO excited :)  Now, some picture inspiration that makes me want to develop some mad Illustration Skills.

Loving Prada's monkey dress...Perfect for evening events at the beach.  I live in the Dominican Republic aka Caribbean so different types of beachwear are always present in my mind.

Personal Info!: Christmas break is over, started University last Monday, all good and dandy so far (lot of homework though).  Marilyn and I start our second semester of Fashion Design this thursday. I am SO excited, specially to start my Fashion Illustration course. I want to design!  We'll keep you all updated of course :)

Personal!: Las vacaciones Navideñas finalizaron, comenzamos la Universidad el pasado Lunes, todo ha salido bien hasta ahora (aunque con mucha tarea).  Marilyn y yo comenzamos nuestro segundo semestre de Diseño de Modas este Jueves.  Estoy TAN emocionada, especialmente por comenzar Ilustración de Modas. Ya quiero diseñar!.  Los mantendremos al tanto, obviamente :)

First of all: Happy New Year all! Hope you all had a blast celebrating this new beginning and have rested enough to start 2011.


Having said that, we are happy to announce that our lazyness vacation is over as well. We will be posting regularly, as much as we can. :D


However this post has to do with last year. Just wanted to show you guys what we learned in our 1st semester in our Fashion Design career. 
We made not One but TWO clothing masterpieces: a shirt and a skirt. But let me warn you guys, the style is rather old fashioned (extremely old) because the pattern, well the design was created by our dear teacher, whom I hope I will NOT see her anytime soon. And please don't laugh, its my first ever piece cut and sewn by me (not taking into consideration the Barbie dresses I've made when I was a kid).

Pardon me, it is not ironed. Though to tell you the truth it doesn't really make any difference because I sewed it wrong or something.

The skirt is behind, it is a long (10 inches below the knee) classic/office skirt that hopefully no one uses anymore?.

This is the size of our portfolio. What we have learned this semester, all pasted there.

One of the pages. From top to bottom: a belt, a ribbon, buttons wrapped in chiffon and last but not least, a flower (looks better from the top view, but since it's pasted :( ).

So there you have it. The results of our 1st semester.

Lanvin for H&M

The wait is almost done! Only 3 more days to go before Lanvin's H&M collection comes out. (November 2nd) How awesome is this! and yet sad because we cannot order online : ( , well at least not straight from H&M. They should put on an online shop.

Alber Elbaz, the designer of Lanvin, has created this sophisticated chick, floral pattern bold black color dresses for H&M. Love them all! Beautiful designs, and a bit more than what you would usually pay for an H&M dress, but hey! Its Lanvin and it's a higher end clothing line, but no more than US$100. Isn't that GREAT?


La espera casi termina! Sólo 3 días mas para que la línea de Lanvin en H&M salga. (2 de Noviembre) Qué emoción! a la misma vez triste porque no lo podemos pedir online : ( , bueno por lo menos no directamente de H&M. Ellos deberían de poner un shop online.


Alber Elbaz, el diseñador para Lanvin, ha creado vestido con el look sofisticado y femenino, con diseños florales o simplemente negro. AMO a toditos! Bellos diseños y bueno un poco más caro de lo usual para un vestido de H&M, pero bueno! es Lanvin y es más superior que lo usual. Les prometo que no sobrepasa de US$100. No es esto estupendo?

Carlos de Moya at Dominicana Moda 2010

Hi all! Just wanted to share with you guys one of our acclaimed designers of Dominican Republic, Carlos de Moya. I was lucky to have assisted his fashion show at Dominicana Moda 2010.
This year concept's was PULOWI, about primitive and beautiful woman. All designs were very detailed with accessories, they gave a very fresh feeling, free and relaxing. Well since the concept also includes beach (because we live in an island), he used a lot of shells, fishing nets and light fabrics. I personally LOVED it! I am going to randomly choose some pictures since I can't put every single one, hopefully you will like it as much as I do!

Hola todos! Quiero compartir con ustedes uno de nuestros famosos diseñadores de República Dominicana, Carlos de Moya. Tuve la suerte de presenciar la pasarela en Dominicana Moda 2010. 
El concepto de este año era PULOWI, mujer primigenia y bella. Todos los diseños eran detallados con accesorios, daban un sentido fresco, liberado y relajado. Bueno, como el concepto también incluía playa (porque vivimos en una isla), el utilizó muchas conchas, mallas de pescar y telas ligeras. Personalmente a mi me FASCINÓ! Voy a seleccionar algunas fotos al azar para ponerlas aquí ya que no puedo poner cada uno, espero que a ustedes les guste tanto como a mí me gusta!

Well, well, well. Look at what we have here! 

A picture with our former Miss Universe, Amelia Vega (Dominican Republic). She is so pretty and tall!, I felt so Petite beside her. Gosh, this picture does not make her justice! however, heres another picture just so you guys can see. :)

Day 10, Día 10

So I'm just going to skip to day 10 because seriously, Day 9 didn't happen much. And I have to say, the teacher doesn't really know how to teach. It sucks because both of the classes (Pattern and Sewing) are imparted by her. It sucks.

But Day 10 very interesting :) . We have our first midterm of Two-dimensional Class! I am excited. lol. We have to create our first pattern! and then use it to create a purse! How awesome is that!

Anyway, so last time i showed my two dimensional class work. This time, Im going to post a picture of my Anatomical Drawing homework. Which is draw our hands holding an object.

From left to right: 1st hand is holding an ace card, 2nd hand is holding a pocket mirror, 3rd hand is tangled with a necklace.

Next time, for Anatomical Drawing we will have to draw our feet! Yuck, I don't really like feet. Don't really know how that is gonna go, but hopefully I can nail it. :P

Day #7 of Fashion Design

Hey, hey hey! (Read this in the Fat Albert tone....fun righttttt?)   

My darling readers, It's Tuesday which means our Fashion Design journey continues!  Today was the end of our "Basic sewing training" and we did the usual: Preparing the sewing machine (Putting the needle, the thread, the bobine, etc), doing some thread and needle exercises with fabric, etc.  So far Marilyn and I have perfect scores: 20/20. Boo ya.

Next week we leave the simplicity behind and start  with the goods...actually creating stuff!  So excited.     

In Pattern Class we continued completing our skirt pattern from the previous class. Lots of measurements, LOTS of measurements.  The front and the back are made completely different yet the same at the same time....different spaces, positions; definitely need to be practiced many times to learn it perfectly. Meaning we have a lot of homework...but in the end it was all excelent.

Unfortunately, today's post comes bearing no behind the scenes pictures :(

Hey, hey, hey! (Lee esto es la voz de Fat Albert..divertido verdad?)
Mis queridos lectores, es Martes lo cual significa que hoy continúa nuestra travesía con Diseño de Modas.  Hoy fue el final de nuestro "Entrenamiento básico de costura", hicimos lo usual: Preparamos la máquina de coser (Poner la aguja, el hilo, la bobina, etc), hacer ejercicios con hilo y aguja en tela, etc.  Hasta ahora Marilyn y yo tenemos una puntuación perfecta: 20/20. :D

La próxima semana dejamos la simplicidad atrás y comenzamos con lo bueno... creando cosas! Estoy super emocionada.  Hoy, en la clase de Patrón continuamos completando nuestro patrón de falda.  Son muchas medidas, MUCHAS medidas.  La parte delantera y la trasera son hechas completamente diferentes pero casi igual al mismo tiempo, muchos espacios, posiciones; definitivamente hay que practicarlo muchas veces paraque logre salir perfecto.  Lo cual significa, mucha tarea! Pero al final todo excelente :)

Day 4: Draw, draw, draw ...paint

Today was Day 4 in our journey in Fashion Design.    

Last class was all about the manufacturing of the clothes, today was all about: Design.

Sketching, learning about brushes and pens; talking about everything from art therapy to how Chanel raise their own sheep to manufacture their notorious tweed jackets...

 ... and we found out that in our Illustration class we will work with Indian Ink the ENTIRE semester.

It's messy, it's easily scattered and apparently it dries super fast, which leaves hardly any time to correct an error.   Our teacher wants every assignment to be flawless, which means any little itty bitty error will be taken into consideration and will have to be repeated until it's perfect.

(We will write about our experiences with this ink and post pictures of our work, once we start). 

In Anatomic Drawing, we continued drawing hands,  

"If you master the art of drawing hands and feet, you can draw any other body part"- Teacher

Hoy fue el 4to dia de nuestra carrera de Diseño de Modas.

La clase pasada fue completamente sobre la confección de la ropa, hoy fue todo sobre el: Diseño.

Bosquejos, aprendiendo sobre las brochas y lapiceros; hablando de todo desde la terapia psicológica del arte a como Chanel cría sus propias ovejas para fabricar sus tan famosos chaquetes de tweed...

...y descubrimos que este semestre en nuestra clase de Dibujo Bidimensional, trabajaremos todo el semestre con Tinta China

Ensucia, salpica fácilmente y aparentemente se seca super rápido, el cual deja casi nada de tiempo para corregir algun error.    Nuestra Profesora quiere todas las tareas impecables, lo cual significa que el más minimo sucio o error será tomado en cuenta y tendrá que ser repetido hasta que este perfecto.

(Escribiremos todas nuestras experiencias con esta tinta y agregaremos fotos de nuestras creaciones,  cuando empezemos)

En Dibujo Anatómico, continuamos dibujando manos,

“Si dominas el arte de dibujar manos y pies, podrás dibujar cualquier otra parte del cuerpo”- Profesora

So far, everything has been going absolutely perfect.

Day 3: It's Official!

Today was the official day we start with our Fashion Design journey.
We took off with the Sewing class, we didn't exactly sew anything yet, however we were practicing with the sewing machine. Just without thread, but learning how to sew on a line, making straight lines and other different shapes.

At the Pattern class, we learned how to measure a female body. It was very interesting and sort of difficult, because it has a lot of maths as well. Nevertheless, it was simple math, so once we caught on with it, we went flying.

So, today was pretty awesome.
Except for those boring classes we had after our artistic classes.

Our materials, not much but hey, we just started!

Hoy fue el inicio oficial de nuestra carrera de Diseño de Modas.

Comenzamos con la clase de Costura, hasta el momento, no hemos cosido  nada en especifico.  Hemos estado practicando con la máquina de coser.  Aprendiendo a coser en una línea, hacer líneas, rectas y distintas figuras, pero SIN hilo.

En la clase de Patrón, aprendimos a medir el cuerpo femenino.  Fue interesante aunque un poco difícil porque hay que hacer cálculos.   Pero es matemática simple y una vez que le cogimos el truco se nos hizo sencillo.

Asi que, hoy fue asombroso.

Excepto por las clases aburridas que tuvimos que coger después de nuestras clases artísticas.

Day 2: Presentation + Basics

Today's classes were basically almost the same as the first one, except that these are different classes (Illustration & Anatomic Drawing). 

We got to know two awesome teachers, from which I feel like we can learn a Lot. We are impatient for next week, when we really start to learn the Real Thing. Although we did do something in Anatomic Drawing- we drew our hands and I must say, my skills were a bit rusty and so was Carolina's. Mine came out a bit disproportionate, my palm was bigger than my real hand; and Carolina's came out like two sizes smaller than real life. At least the teacher is not going grade it. 

Now that I think of it, it was rather funny. Everybody's came out weird. :)

Las Clases de hoy fueron basicamente iguales a la s primeras, excepto que estas son distintas clases (Ilustración y Dibujo Anatómico). Tenemos a dos profesoras expectaculares, de las que sentimos que podemos aprender mucho. Estamos impacientes para la semana que viene, ahi empezaremos a crear. Aunque si hicimos algo en Dibujo Anatómico, dibujamos nuestras manos y debo de decir que mis habilidades estaban oxidades tambien las de Carolina. La mia salió desproporcionada, quedo mas grande que mi mano real y el de Carolina salio mucho más pequeño que en vida real. Por lo menos la profesora no le pondrá calificación.

Ahora que lo pienso, fue chistoso.  El de todos le salió raro :)

Oh! we had a Hills moment (where we just stare at each other). 

 Oh! y tuvimos un momento tipo The Hills (donde solo nos quedamos viendo)

Except that we were not crying of course.

Overall, it was a great day! Until we had to go to our other University. for marketing.

Which made us realize and think: Are we sure we want to continue with Marketing? Because we have never felt the same excitement. 

In other words, we are wavering.

This is sad.

Excepto que no estabamos llorando, claro. 
Pero en sintesis, fue un buen día! Hasta que tuvimos que ir a 

nuestra otra universidad para Marketing.  

El cual nos hizo realizar y pensar:

Estamos seguras de que queremos continuar con Marketing?
Porque nunca hemos sentido la misma emoción.  

En otras palabras, estamos oscilantes.
  Que triste.

Day 1: Presentation + The Basics

Sewing 1 Classroom

 Day 1: Completed.  

As mentioned in the previous post, today was the first day of our Fashion Design Course.

The first class of any new subject at a higher education facility goes like this:

-You Introduce yourself.

-The teacher let you know the materials you'll be needing for said class.

-You leave early.

Yet this was NOT the case, we were given each class to its full extent.

We had two classes: 

Sewing Class: How to properly use a traditional sewing machine and a few tricks that will help in case of any mishap.

Pattern Class: Measurements. 

Next class will start using fabric and actually try to make something!  Can't wait.

Día 1: Completado

Como ya se mencionó en el post anterior. Hoy fue el primer día de nuestro curso de Diseño de Modas.

El primer día de cualquier materia en una facilidad de educación superior va asi: 

-Te presentas.
-El profesor(a) te deja saber los materiales que necesitaras para la clase.
-Te vas temprano.

En esta ocasión, este NO fue el caso. Dimos las clases en su completa duración.  

Hoy tuvimos dos clases: 

Costura:  Como utilizar propiamente una máquina de coser tradicionar y algunos trucos que nos beneficiara en caso de cualquier equivocación.
Patrón: Medidas.  

En la próxima clase empezaremos a trabajar con tela y tratar de crear algo!  Ya lo quiero hacer!

Tomorrow starts a new course of our life / Mañana, un nuevo comienzo

We have been anticipating for this date to come since forever! Finally it is just a few hours away. 

We are extremely excited because our Fashion Design Course starts tomorrow and we just can NOT wait any longer. It is the beginning of something we both love, and we hope that you can also hang around with us in this, what I am sure will be, wonderful journey.

Hemos estado anticipando esta fecha desde hace mucho! Por fin! solo queda pocas horas para que  llegue. Estamos muy entusiasmadas porque mañana empezamos nuestra curso de Diseño de Modas y estamos sumamente ansiosas. Es el comienzo de una pasión  y esperamos que ustedes sean parte de  nuestra experiencia, estoy segura que será, viaje maravilloso.
