Day #7 of Fashion Design

Components of a Sewing Machine

Hey, hey hey! (Read this in the Fat Albert tone....fun righttttt?)   

My darling readers, It's Tuesday which means our Fashion Design journey continues!  Today was the end of our "Basic sewing training" and we did the usual: Preparing the sewing machine (Putting the needle, the thread, the bobine, etc), doing some thread and needle exercises with fabric, etc.  So far Marilyn and I have perfect scores: 20/20. Boo ya.

Next week we leave the simplicity behind and start  with the goods...actually creating stuff!  So excited.     

In Pattern Class we continued completing our skirt pattern from the previous class. Lots of measurements, LOTS of measurements.  The front and the back are made completely different yet the same at the same time....different spaces, positions; definitely need to be practiced many times to learn it perfectly. Meaning we have a lot of homework...but in the end it was all excelent.

Unfortunately, today's post comes bearing no behind the scenes pictures :(

Hey, hey, hey! (Lee esto es la voz de Fat Albert..divertido verdad?)
Mis queridos lectores, es Martes lo cual significa que hoy continúa nuestra travesía con Diseño de Modas.  Hoy fue el final de nuestro "Entrenamiento básico de costura", hicimos lo usual: Preparamos la máquina de coser (Poner la aguja, el hilo, la bobina, etc), hacer ejercicios con hilo y aguja en tela, etc.  Hasta ahora Marilyn y yo tenemos una puntuación perfecta: 20/20. :D

La próxima semana dejamos la simplicidad atrás y comenzamos con lo bueno... creando cosas! Estoy super emocionada.  Hoy, en la clase de Patrón continuamos completando nuestro patrón de falda.  Son muchas medidas, MUCHAS medidas.  La parte delantera y la trasera son hechas completamente diferentes pero casi igual al mismo tiempo, muchos espacios, posiciones; definitivamente hay que practicarlo muchas veces paraque logre salir perfecto.  Lo cual significa, mucha tarea! Pero al final todo excelente :)

Desafortunadamente, el post the hoy no tendrá fotos de detrás de escena :(

Dominicana Moda 2010

Hey! Sorry for the lack of updates, assigments are taking over our lives, but I wouldn't have it any other way, it's good to be productive :)

It's finally October, which means: Dominicana Moda 2010.  Dominicana Moda is one of the two fashion events that take place in the Dominicana Republic.   There is a special guest each year, last year it was Carolina Herrera, this year it's Oscar de la Renta.

One of the shows I'm really  looking forward to is from local designer Laura Guerrero.  She was my teacher in a course I did in Introduction to Fashion Design at Casa Chavon  last year and I can't wait to see what she came up with.

Hey! Perdón por la falta de actualizacion, las tareas estan controlando nuestras vidas, pero no lo tendría de otra forma, es bueno tener obligaciones y estar productivos :)

Es Octubre! Finalmente, lo cual significa: Dominicana Moda 2010.  Dominicana Moda es uno de los dos eventos de modas que se llevan a cabo en la Republica Dominicana.  Siempre hay un invitado especial, el año pasado fue Carolina Herrera y este año es Oscar de la Renta. 

Uno de los shows que estoy esperando ansiosamente es la de la diseñadora local Laura Guerrero.  Ella fue mi profesora en un curso que hice el año pasado en Casa Chavon de Introducción al Diseño de Modas.   Ya quiero ver su colección!

Day 6.

Sorry guys for not updating daily!
Well, we've been busy these couple of days because we had tests and lots of homework, hence the lack of updates. But we are going to recompense for the days that we didn't.

So on Day 6, Carolina missed classes because she had a situation. I was left alone with other classmates. :(
That day we had to hand in our first homework to the teacher, and not just hand it in but show it to all the classroom for them to criticize or judge whatever we did.

I think I did fairly well according to the judges (other classmates) and I felt bad for judging so cruelly for those who didn't do so well. I feel like I'm the mean one of the class. You know when there's a reality competition on T.V., there is always one that says they don't want to make any friends because their main objective is to win the competition, ... Well, I feel like they think I am one of those people. Hahaha.

Anyway, we didn't do much on thursday. But the teachers did give new lessons on how to draw with coal. Now our homework is to paint the shadows on the hands that we drew with coal. Pretty interesting. I like working with coal.

Disculpas señores que no hemos estado publicando todos los días!
Bueno, hemos estados muy ocupadas ultimamente porque tuvimos muchos exámenes y tareas, pero les recompensaremos por los días que no hemos.


Entonces, Día 6 de nuestras clases, Carolina no pudo asister porque ella tuvo una emergencia. Me quedé sola con otras estudiantes. :( 
Ese día tuvimos que entregar nuestros primer trabajo y no sólo eso, tuvimos que enseñárselo al curso entero para que juzguen o critiquen lo que hicimos.


Creo que hice bien de acuerdo a mis amigas, y me sentí media mala por criticar tanto a aquellas que no hicieron tan bien. Sentí que era la mala de la película. Saben de las series de competencia? Donde siempre hay una que no quiere hacer amigas porque no están para hacer amistades si no ganar la competencia?... Bueno creo que yo sería una de ellas. Jajaja.


De todos modos, no hicimos mucho el jueves. Pero las profesoras nos enseñó algunas lecciones en cómo dibujar con carbón. Ahora nuestras tareas es pintar las sombras en las manos que dibujamos con carbón. Muy interesante. Me gusta trabajar con carbón.
